Local businesses, charities and a football team have joined forces to make this Christmas merry for struggling families in Hyndburn, with a pop-up toy shop!

Fantastic toys from leading online retailer Studio.co.uk gift-wrapped by the Accrington Stanley squad, a FREE mince pie from Clayton Park Bakery and a chance to meet local celebrity Julie Hesmondhalgh, all while supporting local charity Maundy Relief at the pop-up toy shop launch event.

Launch Event -Tuesday 19th November 2pm, 29-31 Abbey Street, Accrington, BB5 1EN

The toy shop will be open 10am-3pm Monday to Saturday, until all the toys have found loving homes.

Parents and guardians are invited to the temporary festive shop on Abbey Street in Accrington, which will be filled to the brim with thousands of toys. They can choose a present for their child in exchange for a small donation to local charity, Maundy Relief.

Actress and ambassador for Maundy Relief, Julie Hesmondhalgh said “Christmas is a time for coming together, for being thankful and for family.

“It is very easy to say ‘it’s not about presents’ however many children in our local community are living in poverty, many families are struggling to make ends meet and the financial burden of striving to provide a memorable Christmas is something people often sacrifice a lot to achieve.”

The pop-up toy shop has been made possible through a very generous donation of toys from Studio.co.uk and the help of the dedicated team at Maundy Relief, who will be running the store.

Julie continued: “Not only will this shop make Christmas more accessible to hundreds of families, the donations received will help with the ongoing community support and work that Maundy Relief do daily as a local charity.

“To add excitement on our open day next week there will even be some of the Accrington Stanley team helping us out with wrapping the presents!”

Sharon Benson, HR Director at Studio added: “Every year we donate our ex-photography toys to a worthy cause, and we are really excited about this year’s initiative.

“Not only will hundreds of families be able to access some fantastic gifts for a small donation, we are also helping local charity Maundy Relief and giving back to the community that has supported us for so long.

“There are some amazing toys available, everything from electric cars to prams and outdoor games which I hope will put smiles on lots of little faces!”

Accrington Stanley Managing Director, David Burgess said: “We are really pleased to be part of this initiative, as far as I’m aware this will be the only toy shop in Accrington this Christmas!”

Stanley manager John Coleman will also be there on Tuesday to officially open the store alongside Julie Hesmondhalgh.

David continued, “We expect there to be lots of excited families waiting, so John will be bringing along multiple members of his first team squad to help with wrapping presents.

“The players are looking forward to getting stuck in and have been practising their wrapping skills in-between training sessions!”

To make the launch even sweeter, Hyndburn business Clayton Park Bakery will be on hand to serve mince pies too.

Paul Bradley, Sales and Marketing Manager, at Clayton Park Bakery added: “It is such a fantastic idea, as soon as we heard about the pop-up shop, we wanted to get involved and support it however possible.

“We decided to celebrate with what we do best, pies! Our team will be at the launch event with free mince pies for all customers as a thanks to them for supporting charity Maundy Relief.”
